BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, (1650-51) O, with crowned-L countermark on cross, ex-Mastalir (Plate). S-P35; KM-17b; Cal-Type 279. 9.63 grams. Strangely hexagonal flan (clipped in its time?) with full countermark on bold full cross, complete but weaker shield with clear assayer to left, deeply toned, lightly corroded. Pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir Collection, with his tag, plated on page 144 of his 2021 book The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint 1649-1652, The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, Part B (countermarks). Recovered from: Capitana, sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador
