BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, (1650-51) O, with crowned-•F• (four dots) countermark on shield, ex-Ponte, Mastalir Plate, KM Plate. S-P35; KM-17b; Cal-Type 279. 12.87 grams. Neatly round flan, struck slightly off-center, with full cross and most of well-detailed shield, nearly full countermark at bottom right below •4•O• and most of king's name, thin from light corrosion, nicely toned. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection and plated on page 357 of Mastalir's book The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint, 1649-1652: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, Part B: The Countermarks of 1652 (2020), also Plate Coin in KM's Standard Catalog references.
