BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, 1627 T, quadrants of cross transposed, "flat" lions, very rare, ex-Christensen (Plate). S-P24; KM-17a; Cal-unl (Type 279). 12.62 grams. Somewhat triangular flan with full •P•T• and •O-iiii• flanking nice full shield, full cross with doubling at top left enabling visibility of most of the date 1627, deeply toned, with only light corrosion, desirable original pedigree. Note: Christensen cataloged this as a "relatively certain" 1629, but by our records none of the many 1629 examples on the market since 1982 from the "Panama Hoard" have "flat" lions in transposed quadrants like we see here. Pedigreed to the original "Treasures of the Conception" Christensen auction of May 1982, lot 149, plated in the catalog, with original lot-tag. Recovered from: Concepción, sunk in 1641 off Hispaniola
