BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 2 reales, 1652 E, transitional McLean Type IV, rare, ex-Ponte, ex-Capitana (1654), Mastalir Plate. S-P37; KM-A16.1; Cal-917. 6.63 grams. Solid AXF with nice toning, minimal surface porosity, central details mostly full (and without doubling) despite peripheral flat area, bold full 1652 date in legend, interesting type (Mastalir's IIB "mule") that shows how the cross side appears to have been settled on while the pillars side was further refined. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection and the Capitana (1654) as well as Sedwick Auction 11 (lot 359), Plate Coin on page 113 of Mastalir's The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint 1649-1653: The 1652 Transitional Minor Denominations, 4, 2, 1 and 1/2 Reales (2016).
