BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 2 reales, 1623 (date as 16ZIII) P, quadrants of cross transposed, very rare, ex-Ponte. S-P22; KM-unl (14 for type); Cal-unl (Type 239). 6.63 grams. While it is rare enough to see this odd date-variety with III instead of 3 in the higher denominations, this is the first time we have seen it in a 2 reales, and the digits are quite full and bold outside a full cross-and-tressure with nice lions (in the wrong quadrants, of course), also choice but doubled full shield with very bold assayer P to left, well-toned VF, odd-shaped flan. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection.
