Austrian cavalry officer's dress sword with scabbard and hanger, engraved Heinrich Hauptfeld and the date 1856. 1081 grams. 39" long. Lovely, showy sword with original leather straps and ornamentation affixed to loops and beautifully carved hilt, original wire-wrapped handle, shiny blade, completely intact, the sheath having preserved the blade in pristine condition. The engraving could refer to either the first and last name of the officer who owned it or his last name and rank, "Hauptfeld" being short for Hauptfeldwebel (master sergeant).
