Wreath around VICTORIA / DEL 24 DE / SEPTIEMBRE / DE 1812 inside legend BAJO LA PROTECCION DE NUESTRA SENORA DE MERCEDES GENERALA DEL EXERCITO on obverse, reverse with TUCUMAN / SEPULCRO / DE LA / TIRANIA and drum/cannons/flagpoles inside tulip border, with raised lettering ***VIVA LA RELIGION LA PATRIA Y LA UNION*** on edge. Lustrous AU with incipient toning, light hairlines all over. First example we have seen, an important medal mandated by General Manuel Belgrano after his victory with the Army of the North over royalist troops, an antecedent to the famous 1813 coinage struck at Potosi for the River Plate Provinces.
