AUSTRIA, bronze piefort trial strike for reverse of a medal, 1876, thousandth anniversary of the Ségur-Cabanac family's entry into nobility, by Heinrich Jauner (1833-1912), Blanton Plate. 96.44 grams. 45 mm. Design with the Ségur-Cabanac family shield at center flanked by wildmen, POST MILLE AN ARTHUR COM DE SEGUR CABANAC above; plain edge. Mint State with nice original red mint luster around the design. Very rare and missing in the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Austrian national collection). The engraver, Heinrich Jauner, was the Imperial Royal Court Chamber Engraver for Emperor Franz Joseph in Vienna. The reference for the full medal is Wurzbach-Tannenberg's Katalog Meiner Sammlung von Medaillen, Plaketten und Jetons, Vol. 2 (1943), p. 1357, number 8387. Plated in Herman Blanton's "Millennial Medal for the House of Ségur-Cabanac” in NI Bulletin vol. 43, number 3, March 2008, pp. 42-51, and pedigreed to the Monasterium Numismatische Auktionsgesellschaft (Münster, Germany) auction of June 2005, lot 933.
