ARGENTINA (Buenos Aires), 4 reales-sized medal, 1854, standing steer / Constitution, struck over a cut-down Potosí, Bolivia, 8 soles, 1832 (JL), rare. Fonrobert-10057. 19.01 grams. Brilliant Mint State, deeply struck with minor die-crack on reverse, host data clearly visible in rims, most notably the date. To commemorate the new Constitution of the Province of Buenos Aires in separation from the Confederation led by Urquiza, medals like this one were struck and sold on site at the Plaza de Mayo using whatever coins were supplied by the public, in various metals, but primarily Bolivian 8 soles as the most commonly used coin at the time.
