ANCIENT GREEK, Seleukid Kingdom, AR tetradrachm, Seleukis I Nikator, 312-281 BC, types of Alexander III ("the Great"), Seleukeia on the Tigris Mint (ca. 296/5-281 BC), NGC Ch AU / strike 4/5, surface 4/5, ex-Rutherford. HGC 9, 12I; cf. SC 119.2B; Newell, ESM 15,14. 17.01 grams. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus seated left on throne, holding scepter and eagle; monogram to left; below throne, BE below throne. Nicely centered with plenty of detail. Pedigreed to the S.P. Rutherford Collection (stated on label).
