Laureate head of Melqart, right / TYPOY IEPAΣ-KAI AΣYΛOY. Eagle standing left on prow, palm over right wing; ΘΛ (date) above vertical club in left field, Δ right field; Phoenician aleph between legs. Lightly toned and well centered, an iconic piece of history. Shekels of Tyre were accepted as payment for the temple tax at Jerusalem, and are generally thought to have made up the "thirty pieces of silver" that Judas received for betraying Jesus.
