ANCIENT GREEK, Athens, Attica, AR tetradrachm "owl," 393-294 BC, NGC Ch VF (strike 4/5, surface 3/5). SNG Copenhagen 31-40; Kroll 8. 16.96 grams. Helmeted head of Athena right, with frontal eye / Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. Somewhat iridescent example with most of design visible despite an unusual shape with a long, diagonal straight edge on one side, note too the oversized owl head. Coins minted in Athens were among the most trusted throughout the ancient world.
